William “Bill” Chaney, a member of Looper Reed and McGraw,
P.C., is a leading practitioner in the area of complex
litigation. In addition to litigating complex, commercial
matters in state and federal courts throughout the United
States, Mr. Chaney has also been involved in significant
cases involving herbicide damage to agricultural crops. In
these cases involving genetically modified rice, Mr. Chaney,
and Looper Reed, have been retained to represent producers,
mills, and brokers in cases that have been filed or
prosecuted in both state and federal courts.
Mr. Chaney’s experience also includes representing a
plaintiffs’ class in a $75 million securities settlement
relating to fraud in real estate limited partnership
offerings as well as other commercial litigation and
transactions in Texas and elsewhere. He has represented
both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of cases,
including cases involving commercial mortgage
backed security syndications, the distribution channels for
specialized computer equipment, and a variety of issues
arising out of tax shelter syndications, oil and gas
drilling operations, and corporate financing transactions.
Mr. Chaney is a graduate of Trinity University in San
Antonio, Texas and received his J.D. from Southern Methodist
University School of Law in 1977. After law school, he
served as a law clerk for the Honorable William M. Steger,
United States District Judge for the Eastern District of
Texas.
Working with Mr. Chaney on the genetically modified rice
litigation is James Reed, Jr. Mr. Reed, who has been
honored by his peers as a Texas Super Lawyer, has been lead
counsel in a wide variety of complex civil litigations
throughout the country. Most notably, Mr. Reed has
successfully represented thousands of oil and gas royalty
owners in numerous class action cases obtaining awards and
settlements in excess of $100 million.
